The History of 90 Ferry Road.Ordnance Survey Grid Ref (TQ 810 946)

There is no building here on the 1953 Ordnance Survery Map. On the Ordnance survery map 1966 a building exists.

Hullbridge Pet Stores (R.Myner)

Some time between 1953 and 1966 this premises was built.
In an interview with Jan Withers he advised the Myner's opened a pet shop here and they also had one on York Road Southend at the same time.
They converted the pet shop into the drug store.

Hullbridge Drug Store (R. Myner)

In Christmas 1964 an advert appeared in the Local Review for R. Myner Hullbridge Drug Store but he could not sell drugs or complete prescription orders this was done in Rayleigh High Street.
In 1970 Telephone Directory C R Myner was operating a "Drug Store" out of Waxwell Road with the Tel No: Hullbridge 352.

Ferry Pharmacy (Angus Grants)

An article in The Resident dated Oct 1965 stated "We are delighted to see the opening of the "Ferry Pharmacy" at the corner of Waxwell Road and Ferry Road, for some two years we have been trying, along with many others, to get this essential service in the village and we feel entitled to a share of the credit for its establishment. Please support this shop, as a way of showing our thanks to Angus Grant Ltd., for stepping in where others feared to tread."
The business appears in the 1970 telephone directory with a Tel No : Hullbridge 303.

Ferry Pharmacy (Yogi)

1984 tel Southend 230303. The property was extended out the back to its current look today as Ferry Crafts (see below). Moved to 167 Ferry Road.

Ferry Crafts

Was opened c2008 by Diane ?. It has been used by Hullbridge U3A Family History Group for their meetings.
